A crooner to the nth degree. Marques Toliver, the violinist we first posted about here, has recently been touring with James Blake and is starting to make waves on the music scene. James has good taste- this guy is…incredible.
The video here is “Charter Magic,” care of the Mahogany Sessions. It gets especially good about two-thirds in.
If you’re craving more Marques Toliver, check out this mixtape he made, called Studying For My PhD. According to the Guardian’s Michael Cragg, “For his mixtape, Marques Toliver has decided to reveal his inspirations rather than offer too much of himself via new songs, using the format to create something abstract yet compelling.” Listen to the whole thing here. Parts of it feel confusing, but it’s somehow really, really absorbing- I’m hooked.
