
I like it when musicians make short songs. Most of the time, it means that they’ve cut out a lot of the unnecessary elements that we hear so often in longer tunes. Rinse, repeat- sometimes, music seems to be such a culture of repetition, and maybe it doesn’t always need to be that way. If a song is like a single idea, it doesn’t need to be anything grandiose in order to be good.
18 Carat Affair has that idea down. “Bitter Turns to Sugar” is a sweetly abbreviated song that’s infused with enough lo-fi fuzz to make you forget how hot it is outside. Okay, maybe not quite, but here’s hoping.
